Volunteer of the Year

Vai_Plaque_webIn 2007 Vaibhavi received the “Volunteer of the Year” award for her work with Lightning Peak, a program for troubled youth. Since 2003, and continuing to the present day, counselors bring 8 -16 teens every Monday to the temple for a couple of hours community service, supervised by Vaibhavi. Vaibhavi has the kids feed hay to the llamas, take them for a training walk, fix fences, scoop poop, do gardening, clean out the cages of the parrots, and other chores around the farm.

At  a special dinner held inside the youth detention center in South Provo, Julie the program supervisor presented the award to Vabhavi. Vai supervises similar groups on Thursdays and Saturdays. These community service sessions help the kids develop their sensitivity to other living entities (like llamas, peacocks, parrots, and cows), exposes them to a community centered around spiritual values, and helps us accomplish a lot of the farm work for which we are getting too old.
