Anupama Dasi's Story of Faith, - Radha Krishna Temple in Utah

This is the inspiring story of Anupama Dasi of Phoenix, who tottered between life and death for months, and always kept her Krishna Consciousness. Her husband Raja, was constantly by her side chanting.

This mail may be long overdue, but my sentiments are eternal.

It has been nearly 3 months since my return from hospital, but the last 8 months have been the longest and most trying in my life. By the mercy of my Guru and Krsna and the overwhelming love, concern and prayers of all of you and many others around the world, I have got another opportunity to do some more service to my family and Krsna.

Through these months when many a times I had to overcome severe life threatening complications due to multiple failure, I felt Krsna never left my side. Family and friends came forward to be by the side of raja and the kids, supporting them in any which way possible at the same time using all their goodwill to send in a prayer for me. I cannot imagine how it would have been without all your support. This is all God’s merciful arrangement.

When many a times the doctors had given up hope and said so, the intense mercy of my Guru, HH Sri Acharaypada Jayapataka Swami Maharaja and the blessings of all the great empowered saints, the sincere prayers of family and of multitude of friends and devotees far and near – helped me come through what ICU doctors acknowledged as one of the most difficult recoveries they have seen.

After being informed of my condition by raja, when all hope was apparently lost due to near total heart failure, my Guru’s prayers to Sri Sri Rukmini Dwarakadisha in Los Angeles on the night of Feb 2nd pulled me back from a hopeless situation. Without his prayers there would have been no Feb 3 for me, a life-saving miracle that brought me out of near complete heart failure at a time when medically nothing more could be done. The all powerful prayers by sincere souls will save and deliver, even in this day and age, All Glories to Guru and Krsna, All Glories to everyone who sincerely seek mercy of their Guru.

My fellow pujari’s in the Hare Krishna temple (especially Mother Dhanalakshmi) prayed intensely for me everyday and sent prasadam to the hospital everyday. raja had installed a beautiful temple in my room so I never felt like I was too far away from Sri Sri Radha Madhava Hari.

Through this ordeal Krsna not only gave me the strength to handle the physical hardship and the mental strength to understand the ways of material life, but also a practical spiritual lesson of the ways of janma mrityu jaraa vyaadhi, dhukha doshanu darsanam.

The doctors with extensive experience, despite technological advancements simply did not know much about healing, each person being uniquely different, and responding to the same treatment differently, therefore they know very little about the complexity of human healing. however they do their primary job very well – to stabilize sickness with their limited knowledge and hope for the best. Indeed an open testimony that Krsna is the Ultimate doctor.

Family and Friends:

There are many from near and far who literally willed my recovery through their firm faith and sincere prayers. They helped us every day – in every way and made it possible to return me back to family , something which at one time looked impossible. You were our Guardian Angels, to whom we owe much gratitude for your prayers and help. May the Lord shower His blessings on your families. We owe an entire lifetime of gratitude to you.

I am so grateful for a wonderful close family and elders who came out of the way to give raja physical and moral support. My sister Sowmya (Saci Janani devi dasi from UAE), a great devotee of Lord Krsna, stood by me all through the ordeal and cheered me up through the most difficult times. To her, and those individuals, we fall at their feet again and again within our hearts, and pray that we may get an opportunity to serve them sincerely in the future.

We are very eternally grateful to each of you friends and family who prayed at temples in their hometowns in India, and the special group prayer gatherings, the individual prayer efforts in Phoenix and elsewhere, and the remote healing efforts. To them we would like to say- Your faith in Krsna is certainly many times stronger than ours.

Finally I am enternally grateful to Krsna for giving me raja who never left my side, prayed and performed kirtana for me every day, never lost hope, kept his nerve under the most trying circumstances, helped me beat the heavy odds against me and helped me get back to my children and to my devotional service.

Material life means danger at every step, and we all got another chance to learn from my experience. The best way – is to have Sri Krsna with us as the only protection from material conditions which so easily go beyond our collective abilities.

samasrita ye pada-pallava-plavam
mahat-padam punya-yaso murareh
bhavambudhir vatsa-padam param padam
padam padam yad vipadam na tesam

“For those who have accepted the boat of the lotus feet of the Lord, who is the shelter of the cosmic manifestation and is famous as Murari, the “ocean” of the material world is like the water contained in a “calf’s hoof-print”. Their goal is param padam, Vaikuntha, the place where there are no material miseries, not the place where there is danger at every step.” Srimadh Bhagavatam 10.14.58

It may take many months, years or perhaps a lifetime of recovery, but with all your prayers and blessings I will hopefully return to regular Deity service and a normal family life.
