Our Community
The community that comes to take shelter in Krishna’s temple is diverse — there are many levels of involvement, types of service, and relationships with the temple.
We are the people who are putting on all the programs and who, by so much seva (service), receive a great deal of Krishna’s grace. Steps to Involvement includes all the ways to progressively develop and deepen in bhakti — devotion to God.
New Member Classes
A temple is the focus of spiritual life for those who gather there regularly. Over time the community becomes a spiritual family, which is very much like a family bound by birth and marriage except that all the relationships are based on worship together and mutual spiritual goals. The practice of dakshina (giving offerings) has a great significance. As we give back to Krishna a small portion of what is given to us, we acknowledge that everything comes from Him. If we are giving 10% of our income to Krishna’s temple, the understanding of dakshina is not that we are giving away 10% […]
Volunteer Positions
Service to Krishna has tremendous spiritual merit and is a great way to burn up lots of karma. There are several service opportunity positions around the Temple. We achieve significance by serving the Lord, from whom all qulaiites emanate. If we fail to use our talents and abilities in His service, we tend to misuse […]
Volunteers
Our volunteers come as part of local groups like churches, civil organizations, schools, families — or as individual visitors. Groups should book at least a week in advance (801.919.9933/ 787.1510) due to the number of requests we receive, which allows us to have jobs, supervision and tools ready for everyone. Of course, we’re grateful for […]
Lifestyle 101 Class
Members of the Temple learn the skills that form the foundation of a devotional lifestyle – performing home puja (worship ceremony) preparing and offering prasadam (blessed food), applying tilaka (sacred markings of Lord Vishnu), chanting japa (mantra repetition on beads), singing kirtan (congregational chanting) and other skills. Based on the lifestyle practices of the ancient […]
Devotional Service
The word yoga means “to connect.” Though yogas are commonly used for health and fitness, the Vedic texts explain that yoga is meant to connect with God. Bhakti means “devotion,” or “devotional service,” or “pure love.” So Bhakti-yoga means to practice connecting with God, and reestablishing our relationship with Him, through acts of love and […]
