(1) je anilo prema-dhana koruna pracur
heno prabhu kotha gela acarya-thakur
Departed devotees are all gone into the world of light!
And I alone sit ling’ring here;
Their very memory is fair and bright,
They inhabit the world of no fear
Their after glow lingers and glitters
Like stars upon some gloomy grove,
Or the sun’s faint beams splintering
A she westward roves
I see them walking in an air of glory,
Their light tramples on my dreary days:
where I write the last pages of my story
My heart full of love and lips of praise
O Krishna, the Supreme Person
High than the heavens above!
You sent the devotees to lift the curtain
To rekindle embers of my long lost love
Dear, beauteous Death! the jewel of the just,
Shining nowhere, but in the dark;
What mysteries does your smile suggest
On what cruise shall we embark
At first sight, coming upon an empty nest
We know the bird has flown
But what enchanting tree he sings in now,
That is to us unknown.
And yet as angels in some brighter dreams
Call to the soul, when man is asleep:
So thoughts of transcendence do stream
Softening the edge of darkness deep.
